Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Competition

The VFW’s “Patriot’s Pen” Essay Competition is an annual nationwide essay completion for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, with U.S. Savings Bonds as prizes.  The student must write a 300-400 work essay on an annual patriotic theme.
Over one million dollars in savings bonds and awards will be given during the contest year.
The first place national winner receives a $10,000 Savings Bond and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

The first place State of Alaska winner receives a $250 check, second place winner receives a $150 check and third place winner receives a $100 check.
If you do not take the Patriot’s Pen Program to every school in the State of Alaska, we are not affording all the youth of this state the opportunity to participate in one of the best scholarship programs available.
